Self Employment is the ultimate adventure where you are in control and create your own destiny. Unemployment has over the recent years become an increasing concern amongst our youth. Even the best graduates with their 1st Class Honors have to struggle to get a job. In our days, there used to be this song that goes like this……Someni vijana, muongeze ju ya bidi, mwisho wa kusoma, mtapata kazi nzuri sana. (Study young people, work hard, at the end of studying, you will get a very good job.)
How then, is it that even with the promise of a job after working hard in school and college, does one not get a job as it was in the yesteryears? Is this the end of the road for our youth? I say NO.
We at Human Asset take note of this and have embarked on enlightening our job seekers to look at the bright side of things by focusing on their talent and making that talent work for them through income generating ventures. Think about it. How many people would enjoy making money by doing what they love most? What comes easily to them?
Yes, self-employment is a worthwhile route to great success and career. Did you know that a staggering 87% of Nigerians within the working age bracket, who do not have traditional salaried positions, have ventured into self-employment as at 3rd quarter of 2023. Here in Kenya and I believe in quite a number of other African countries, a lot of us have been socialized to believe that we only become successful if we are employed and that without employment, we are doomed. Yes, employment is the easiest way towards success but not the only way.
So to you young ladies and gents, I urge you not to lose hope. Even as you continue job hunting on various job boards including our Job Board that is updated daily, start looking and thinking of opportunities that can create a source of income for you. Do not wait 6 months, 1 year, 3 years. Do something!
In the present world, online jobs are becoming an increasing reality. This is one way of earning an income right from your home. All you need is a phone or laptop and internet connectivity.
Another is content creation through social media. I am sure you have all heard of influencers and people who are earning a decent income through this.
Lastly, every human being was created with for purpose and gifted with a talent. All you have to do is to find out what yours is. Finding your purpose and using your creativity and God given talent, can turn your passion into profit!
A friend recently shared with me a quote on fear which goes like this…”I have learnt over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.”
So, to you young ladies and gents, I urge you to take a step back, brush off that fear and take the leap of faith towards your best job ever! SELF-EMPLOYMENT.
