Job Description

Our client in the Energy Sector is looking for an Accountant for their Mombasa and Nairobi Office. The main objective of this role is to ensure accuracy of financial data and Trial Balance. The accountant will also ensure preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, to include P&L, BS, budgets, forecasts and cashflows.  The Job holder will also ensure that all mandatory returns and dues are attended to within the timeframe.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate financial date and Trial Balance
  • Accurate and timely submission of returns and taxes to KRA (VAT returns, PAYE, corporation tax, NHIF, NSSF, Housing Levy.
  • Maintaining accurate records of a customs bonded warehouse and reconciliation of Capex and Opex items with KRA official
  • Reconciliation of supplier accounts and process payments in line with approved budgets
  • Preparation of variance analysis reports of actual expenditure vs budgeted and approved expenses
  • To ensure payments meet the company procedures and policies
  • Assist with preparation of Master List/Exemption List for the purposes of exemption applications
  • Assist with systems and procedures implementation
  • Preparing budgets and budgetary control on expenditures and submit reports financial situation
  • Managing all phases of the audit process including planning and leading audit.
  • Providing guidance and technical assistance to operation and other staff, and ensure completeness, accuracy, and objectivity in the entire accounting department.
  • Ensure that the organization’s financial records and recordkeeping methods are in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Establish finance SOPs and Manuals and review procedure to ensure mitigation of financial risks.
  • Periodically review the organization’s financial reports and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Any other accounting duties and office related duties that may be required from time to time.
  • To file company records both manually and electronically
  • Risk identification and adequacy of controls.
  • Provide guidance and Communication of all Finance matters within the Company and external stakeholders

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or any relevant field
  • ACCA, ACA or CPA
  • Knowledge and experience in an accounting software packages, SAP would be an added advantage
  • Must have minimum three (3) years working experience
  • Written and verbal Swahili and English proficiency
  • Ability to convey complex financial concepts to management or key stakeholders
